MOT Regulation Changes for Jacking Beams - Effective April 2026

MOT Regulation Changes for Jacking Beams - Effective April 2026

New DVLA regulations for MOT station jacking beams are coming into effect from April 2026, meaning all Class 4 MOT bays will soon need to meet updated equipment standards. Staying compliant is essential to keep your workshop running smoothly and avoid any last-minute disruption. Here’s a clear overview of what’s changing and how you can prepare ahead of time.

What’s Changing

From 1 April 2026, all Class 4 MOT test bay jacking beams must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Minimum lifting capacity: 2,000 kg

  • Minimum distance between pad centres: 1,700 mm

These new standards are outlined in the government’s MOT Special Notice 04-25 and are designed to reflect the increased size and weight of modern vehicles. The changes aim to improve safety and ensure that MOT equipment is suitable for the range of vehicles commonly tested today.

Why It Matters

Workshops that fail to meet the new requirements by the April 2026 deadline may find themselves unable to carry out MOT tests until their equipment is upgraded. This could lead to downtime, lost revenue, and operational delays. Acting early gives you time to plan installations, schedule upgrades, and avoid the last-minute rush expected closer to the deadline.

Stay Compliant with Ready-to-Fit Equipment

We already have fully compliant jacking beams in stock and ready for installation.
Our models meet and exceed the new standards, featuring:

  • Extension capability up to 1,870 mm

  • Retraction down to 790 mm

  • A 2,000 kg lifting capacity suitable for a wide range of vehicles

  • Proven reliability, tried and tested in workshops across the UK

By upgrading now, your MOT bay will be future-proofed for years to come, giving you peace of mind that your setup meets the latest DVLA requirements well ahead of schedule.
